Constricted channel flow with different cross-section shapes

چکیده
Pressure driven steady flow through a uniform circular channel containing a constricted portion is a common problem considering physiological flows such as underlying human speech sound production. The influence of the constriction’s cross-section shape (circle, ellipse, circular sector) on the flow within and downstream from the constriction is experimentally quantified. An analytical boundary layer flow model is proposed which takes into account the hydraulic diameter of the cross-section shape. Comparison of themodel outcomewith experimental and three-dimensional numerically simulated flow data shows that the pressure distribution within the constriction can be modeled accurately so that the model is of interest for analytical models of fluid–structure interaction without the assumption of twodimensional flow. © 2017 The Authors. Steam Reforming Integrated with Oxidation of Methanol in a Micro-Channel Reactor with Different Micro-Baffle Shapes
A micro-channel heat exchanger reactor with different micro-baffle shapes has been studied numerically. Governing equations were solved base on the finite volume method with FLUENT software. In upper section, oxidation reaction of methanol was occurred and in lower section, steam reforming of methanol was done. Two sections were separated with solid part which played as heat exchanger and trans...
متن کاملAn approximate model for slug flow heat transfer in channels of arbitrary cross section
In this paper, a novel approximate solution to determine the Nusselt number for thermally developed, slug (low-prandtl), laminar, single phase flow in channels of arbitrary cross section is presented. Using the Saint-Venant principle in torsion of beams, it is shown that the thermally developed Nusselt number for low-prandtl flow is only a function of the geometrical parameters of the channel c...
متن کاملShape Effects and Definition of Hydraulic Radius in Manning 's Equation in Open Channel Flow
In the Manning equation the hydraulic radius can be defined as the cross-section dimension of the shape. In pipe flow the bed shear stress is assumed to be uniformly distributed along the wetted perimeter which cannot be true in open channel flow. Hence, three approximation of the true boundary shear-stress distribution are examined and more practical conveyance depth or resistance radius formu...
متن کاملDeposition of Various Shapes Particles on a Rough Surface in Turbulent Flow
An experiment set-up is used to study wall deposition rate of particles on a rough surface in a turbulent channel flow. Deposition velocities for three classes of particles, namely, spherical glass particles, irregular shape polymer particles, and fibrous silicon particles are studied. The particle concentration at the test section was measured with the aid of an isokinetic probe in conjunction...

To obtain a higher heat transfer in the low Reynolds number flows, wavy channels are often employed in myriad engineering applications. In this study, the geometry of grooves shapes is parameterized by means of four angles. By changing these parameters new geometries are generated and numerical simulations are carried out for internal fully developed flow and heat transfer. Results are compared...
